Darren joined Capital Cranfield in April 2024 after a 30+ year career in restructuring/insolvency and covenant consulting.  He is an experienced pensions professional with a proven history of delivering member driven outcomes.

Having been engaged in the covenant industry since its inception in 2004, Darren has played a leading role in the development of the covenant consulting industry and its role in scheme funding and in transactional scenarios.  He has used his knowledge for both the benefit of trustee and corporate clients, and was instrumental in developing Mercer’s integrated approach to linking covenant, funding and investment risk.

Darren has successfully navigated clients through funding negotiations, established frameworks for monitoring of integrated risk, advised on scheme events, corporate transactions, restructuring, refinancing and sponsor distress and insolvency, as well as advising on end-game and journey planning and the suitability of risk-transfer providers.

Darren’s experience covers the widest range of industry sectors, UK and international companies and with scheme experience ranging from schemes below £10m in assets to more than £10bn.  In his pensions work, Darren’s approach is driven by the desire to find collaborative, innovative and workable solutions, maintaining strong sponsor and trustee relationships.

Darren is a chartered accountant (ICAEW) and holds the Joint Insolvency Examination Board qualification. Outside of work, Darren is a keen sailor and holds a Yachtmaster qualification, and can often be found taking crews out for sailing trips around the Solent where he acts as a skipper for a sailing syndicate.  He also owns an old racing dinghy, although this is now mainly used for pottering around the creeks of the Norfolk coast close to his home.
